The Creatin' Contest: Motivating Miniaturists Everywhere!

Since 1975, HBS/Miniatures.com has been supplying quality dollhouse products to retailers and miniatures enthusiasts across the United States and around the world. The annual Creatin' Contest , started just a few years after the company was formed, has since engaged, motivated and inspired miniaturists to use a simple unfinished kit and a lively imagination to create award-winning tiny treasures!

Winners of the most recent Creatin' Contest were recently announced and we're excited to be hosting several of these talented miniaturists on a special Meet the Miniaturist: Winners Edition on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 4pm ET. This special Zoominar is sponsored by HBS/Miniatures.com.

During this Zoominar, you'll hear about their mini inspirations, learn about their work and see their winning pieces.

We'll chat with the Grand Prize Winner, Rebecca Reckin (IG @MelodyOfMiniatures) a homemaker, blogger and miniaturist from Auckland, New Zealand.

This is the first time she has entered the contest and only she is only the second international winner. Rebecca loves fantasy world builds and was inspired by Hobbiton, the town used for location shots in the Lord of The Rings films, located near her home.

Rebecca created Hic Sunt Dracones (Latin for “Here Be Dragons”), a cozy cottage, complete with sleeping forest creatures and objects depicting unlucky trespassers (look for the cowbell!).

We’ll also chat with First Time Entry Winner, Meghan Boos, (IG @dollhouse_smithery) from Brewer, Maine. Meghan loves all things spooky, Halloween and genealogy!

A self-proclaimed “closet miniaturist,” Meghan only recently learned of the existence of the extensive and welcoming community of miniaturists and now maintains friendships with fellow miniaturists from all over the world on social media.

Her winning piece “Gone but Not Forgotten” is a small-scale cemetery, created using a broad range of techniques and skills, and is complete with a miniscule mausoleum and inch-scaled headstones.

We’ll meet Gina Zetts (@letties.dollhouse), a glass sculpture artist, museum worker and arts educator from Richmond, California.

Gina received an Honorable Mention award for “The Dollhouse Glass Hot Shop,” a mini glass blowing studio inspired by the full-size studio she shares with her husband, also a glass artist, located just a few steps outside the back door of their home.

Her winning piece includes a tiny kiln, a small-scale gas tank and some of her own hand-blown miniature glasswork which completes the vignette.

To celebrate the event, HBS/Miniatures.com is offering Meet the Miniaturist viewers with a special offer! Use promo code MTM40 and receive 40% off your highest priced item on any one order placed between Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 12:00am ET and Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:59pm ET.
