6 Things to Do in Cold Spring: Our New Home!

The picturesque town of Cold Spring, New York is filled with charm, history and tons of things to do. And with easy access via Metro North and just 50 miles from New York City, it's no surprise we made it the new home for D. Thomas Miniatures inside The Shoppes at 103 Main Street. The area provides the perfect getaway destination for one day or a long weekend. Here's a round up of great things to do and see to help plan your trip! (Photo Above: A. Stay Overnight: Hudson House Inn

The Hudson House, built in 1832, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is in walking distance from the Cold Spring Main Street shops and restaurants. Extraordinary waterfront views and intimate rooms with private balconies await guests lucky enough to stay!

Do Some Antiquing

There are a number of antique shops for browsing and to find that perfect piece from another time including the Cold Spring Antique Center (77 Main), The Country Touch (97 Main) and Once Upon A Time which contains an in-house doll hospital!

Enjoy a Meal!

A History of Miniatures: A Talk with D. Thomas

Join us for an afternoon at the Hudson River Museum on Saturday, December 9th from 3:00-4:30pm - - we'll be giving a talk on the History of Miniatures and the fixation some of us (who me???) have with these tiny treasures. Miniaturist Spotlight: James Opher

Miniaturist James Opher "breathes new life" into heirloom dollhouses using reclaimed materials and a little DIY magic. See his work on display at Historic Kenmore in Fredericksburg, Virginia as part of its annual “A Wee Christmas at Kenmore,” dollhouse and miniatures show. This hand-painted supercool (signed and numbered!) graffiti art wall hanging by Devin Smith from Awesome, Thanks surprised SquintBox subscribers when the latest assortment arrived in the mail. Nix+Gerber: Empire Opens in NYC

The opening/artist reception for the latest exhibition of work by team Nix+Gerber opened last night at the ClampArt Gallery in New York City. Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber have worked together for over 16 years and this is the first event which provides each artist with equal credit.

The well-attended event showcased stunning oversized photographs featuring urban landscapes with a post-apocalyptic view of the world (fun!).

It took team Nix + Gerber over 4 years to create nine separate and intricately detailed dioramas using mixed materials which would then become awesome photographs for this exhibition.

While many of the miniatures used in their dioramas are discarded after shooting them, a few were kept for display in the Gallery.

Nix+Gerber's attention to detail and weathering techniques are incredible, right down the the cigarette butts which line the sidewalk in "Sentinel".

Empire will be on view through January 27, 2018 at the ClampArt Gallery located at 247 West 29th Street in New York City.
