Rarely does a dollshouse so artful in design yet functional in its beauty enter the min real estate market. I'm excited to introduce the Frances England Dollshouse, " England’s Magic", created and built by Frances H. England and purchased by a collector on Rhode Island at the Kensington DollsHouse Festival in 2010. The collector is ready for it to move on to a new owner after having enjoyed the piece after many years.
This unique custom front opening dollhouse has a petite footprint is petite and perfectly scaled to fit anywhere and be a terrific accent to a home’s decor, measuring just 31 inches high by 15 1/2 inches wide 17 inches deep. The dollhouse features two main rooms on two levels with an attic level which is wired for floor lamps.
Key exterior attributes include front porch portico with decorated carved columns and "weathered" mansard roof, front opening door with blue "glass" window panel and transom, and "knocker", a "weathered" mansard roof with and trumpe l'oeil faux limestone bricking, trio of chimney pots and third story removable dormer panel revealing a decorated attic room. There are decorative architectural elements and embellishments throughout the dollshouse creating a whimsical and artistic approach to the creation of a small scale Georgian-style townhome in miniature.
A hinged door opens to reveal the lower level main room measuring approximately 9 3/4" H x 10" D x 12" W of usable and featuring a large graphic wallpaper pattern and extra wide textured gilded gold ceiling border and floor moldings. The room is highlighted by wide planked stained hardwood flooring, a backlit fireplace with decorative mantle and glowing" embers and a double globe glass chandelier positioned in the center of the room.
A backlit gothic style entranceway on one side of the room leads to a mirrored hallway with finished walls and patterned flooring. A working single door balances the room to reveal a backlit mirrored hallway with winding staircase creating the illusion of depth and dimension. The ceiling is decorated with printed paper as well, fine tuning the artistry of Frances England.
The second story is as equally dramatic as the main room and measures approximately 8 3/4" H x 10" D x 12" W (just slightly shorter than the first floor height) and contains oversized graphic patterned papers lining the walls, ceiling and ceiling border. Extra wide planked polished and stained hardwood flooring and double height floor molding creates the illusion of size while remaining within the architectural genre. A backlit fireplace with decorated mantle takes center stage while the room was wired to include a lighting fixture of the new homeowner's choice. The room is flanked with an opening door on one side revealing a decorated hallway leading to a staircase and a mirrored hallway adding depth and dimension on the other.
The top floor attic space has a removable roof for easy access and reveals a bonus room with sloped ceiling, "chopped" opening door and bold striped wallpaper appropriately designed with prep printed weathering for an authentic look and feel. The room is wired to accommodate the new owner's floor lamps.
