"Infinite Regress" by Louise Krasniewicz Featured in the Latest Gallery Exhibition

Miniaturists confront cultural fears and provide commentary on an unstable world, in WEE#RESIST, a new exhibition in the Gallery at D. Thomas Fine Miniatures.

The show, guest curated by Dr. Louise Krasniewicz (Department of Anthropology, University of Pennsylvania), explores the growing issues, challenges, and controversies facing all people as we move together through this period of uncertainty.

Ms. Krasniewicz is also a contributing artist in the show and created "Infinite Regress," a diorama featuring President Donald Trump revealing a bald head in front of a mirror, with one behind him, showing his reflection ad infinitum.

The piece is based on The Mirror of Erised from the Harry Potter Series. The Erised Mirror (Erised is "desire" spelled backwards) reveals one's deepest desire.

In "Infinite Regress" a bald Donald Trump stands alone before the Mirror with hair in hand. His greatest desire, according to Krasniewicz, is to see himself into infinity.

The premise for Infinite Regress is based on the idea that if an argument begins with a falsehood, then a true argument can never continue, since the first premise will always negate anything else said after. Ms. Krasniewicz claims Infinite Regress reflects Trumps approach to making statements.

Viewers are invited to place their own heads inside the piece and experience the concept of infinite regress.

WEE#RESIST will run from June 18 to September 15, 2017 in the Gallery at D. Thomas Fine Miniatures in the historic Moviehouse Mews in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
